Rider training taster session available in our indoor training yard, on Sunday 7 April 2019 is now fully booked. However spaces are available on Sunday 12 May 2019 (booking essential).

Ever fancied the thought of riding a scooter or motorcycle, but not sure if it’s for you?

Then come along to our Taster session day and take advantage of our indoor training yard for a taster session. You’ll have fun and learn the basics on one of our Suzuki 125cc motorcycles, regardless of the weather outside.

The sessions will each last 90 minutes starting at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm.

Bring a friend as there will be 2 spaces available per session. The price is £25.00 per person, and if you book your Compulsory Basic Training course with us following your taster session on the day you will receive £25.00 off the price of the CBT!

We will provide protective clothing, gloves and a helmet. You will need to wear a pair of sturdy boots (but no steel toe caps).

Please arrive 15 minutes before your time slot to get checked in.

What’s required?

A Full or provisional car photo-card licence is required (if you have the old paper style licence please also bring photographic ID) and a sense of adventure and fun.
Hot refreshments will be available throughout.

The Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

is the first step to getting you on the road and requires no previous experience.
At Saltire we will provide you with a bike (Suzuki GSX-S125 or automatic scooter) and any clothing you need to borrow, except boots.

Once you have completed your CBT, you will qualify for a discount in our clothing department, so you can start building up your own bike kit.

Prices are as follows:

CBT Monday-Friday – £160

CBT Weekends – £175

The CBT was was introduced in 1990 by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) with the aim of increasing skills for learner motorcyclists and improving road safety.
It is made up of five different elements, some in the classroom, some in the training yard and lastly out on the road.

Our Instructors will only take you out onto the road once they feel that you are confident handling a motorcycle, and are safe to do so. Traditionally, the CBT course is one full day, but can continue for another half day or so, depending on how individual students get on (or if the weather causes problems!)

Learners will be expected to use the roads safely and legally. So we highly recommend that provisional licence holders read The Highway Code before undertaking a CBT. But remember, The Highway Code is for life, not just for learners!

Test Ride Terms and Conditions:

Full motorcycle Licence and NI number required to be shown on the day to check licences
Appropriate riding gear must be worn at all times during the Test Ride
Test rides have a 40 minute time allocation between 9am and 4pm each day
Riders must be aged 25 years
(19 years for MT-03 test rides with full A2 licence)
no more than 3 penalty points on licence
Riders must abide by the Highway Code and are responsible for any/all offences under the Road Traffic Acts during the test ride
The motorcycle must be returned in the same condition as they received it
In the case of damage to the motorcycle during the test ride the insurance excess payable by the rider is £2,500.
Riders must be in a fit and healthy condition to ride
Our Sales staff have the right to refuse a test ride for any reason
1 goody bag per person (not per test ride!)

** The Yamaha MT-09 prize draw competition is open to anyone over the age of 18 years old (except anyone employed by Saltire Motorcycles, Alba Customs or Yamaha UK).

You do not require to take a test ride or make a purchase, however you must be in store to enter. The prize draw entries will close a week after the event with the winner being announced shortly after.

Event Details

Sam Childers’ life was the subject of Hollywood movie The Machine Gun Preacher (Starring – Gerard Butler playing the role of Sam Childers).

It all started with a Scum of the earth type life – one of drugs, violence and Motorcycles – which involved, at one point, being an armed guard for drug dealers. After almost being killed in a wild brawl Childers decided to turn his life around – to embrace a life of faith in God as he fought to free enslaved children in South Sudan and Northern Uganda – that all started back in 1998.

Since then, Childers has built one of the largest orphanages in Southern Sudan, which has fed and housed more than 1,000 children. With the orphanage finished, Childers began to lead armed missions to rescue children from the Lord’s Resistance Army – which led to villagers calling him ‘The Machine Gun Preacher’.

Fast-forward till today: Childers team make around 12,000 meals every day (for feeding programs in East Africa) and house 380 orphan children (most of which are victims of some atrocity)24/7. He’s also drilled dozens of wells – built many schools and has major projects in South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia.

The event is free, although we will take up a free will offering for the work he does in South Sudan and Northern Uganda after he has spoken. We’d like to think we could help him save some more children.

Hot and Cold refreshments will be available, alongwith a Hot fork buffet, with all donations going to help Sam’s work.
