Rider Training

So you want to be a biker? Brilliant!

Come and join us at Saltire Motorcycles in Edinburgh, where we can help you every step of the way.

Our Rider Training department can offer you the training you need, whether you are starting at the very beginning with a taster session, or coming back to biking after a wee break and need some guidance.

We can take you from ‘Zero’ to ‘Hero’!

At Saltire, we tailor motorcycle training to suit individual needs, and look to develop and expand each student’s skills to make them safer riders. Our instructors are very friendly and approachable and will help you with anything you may be struggling with.

What do you need?

All you need to start is your UK car or provisional photo-card licence; plus the enthusiasm to learn a fun new skill!

Along with your photocard licence, you will need to provide a valid licence check code or provide us with your National Insurance number, so that we can check your licence online.

If you have an old paper style licence then you will also require to bring along some photographic ID such as a passport.

Motorcycles Used For Training

We are delighted to be the UK’s first KTM-partnered motorcycle training school, offering a full fleet of KTM 890 Dukes for our Category A (unrestricted) licence trainees! The 890 Duke has an approachable seat height, and is easy handling for slow speed control, while providing all the braking and acceleration potential you could need.

Our instructors use KTM 890 Adventures, providing them with all-day comfort and the height in traffic to see past their trainees to the road ahead.

For those who want to complete their Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course on a manual motorcycle, we have a range of geared 125 motorbikes, including a lowered option. If you’d rather complete your CBT course on a twist-and-go automatic scooter we have a Sunra Robo-S and a Sunra Miku Super available, both fully electric, alongside a 125cc and 50cc petrol automatic scooters.
