A Bespoke Build for the RMA Charity

Proudly presenting “Bootneck” – a very special custom Interceptor 650 built by Saltire Motorcycles to support the amazing work done by the Royal Marines’ official charity – The Royal Marines Charity.

This one-of-a-kind build was auctioned at the Royal Marines Charity Gala dinner on 30th November at London’s Guildhall, raising an astonishing £60,000 for the RMA cause.

The show piece of the build is a one-of-a-kind Commando ‘Fairbairn Sykes’ fighting knife, embedded and underlit within the bespoke fuel tank – the handle of the knife is hewn from Achnacarry Oak, sourced from the very location in the Highlands where Commandos were sent to complete their basic training.

The hand stitched leather saddle, with subtly etched nods to Commando 80 and Falklands 40, is finished with stitching in Royal Marine colours, which is carried on through the custom paintwork with the Royal Marines’ insignia taking pride of place on the tank.

The given name of the build, “Bootneck”, is after the nickname given to the Marines, denoted in the late 18th Century when the British Marines used to wear leather stocks around their necks.

16th Birthday Bash review

Slicing the Birthday Cake at Saltire Motorcycles Birthday Bash
What an utterly brilliant day that was!

We’d like to thank all who came along on Saturday and make Saltire Motorcycles’ 16th birthday celebration such a special day. The sun shone, cake was eaten, champagne was drank and prizes were won!

Many thanks for the team from Ride & Grind for attending with their now-legendary sidecar coffee bar. We took the Birthday Bash as an opportunity to count up the donations that we collected with them at the Scottish Motorcycle Show, and we’re proud to announce that the generosity of our customers have added up to a significant donation to Prostate Cancer UK.

Just for fun, we put together a short video of the day, see if you can you spot yourself in it!

Always Ready Indian Motorcycle Scout

Always Ready” is a 2021 Indian Motorcycle Scout, built to reflect the craftsmanship shown in the William Wood Watches timepieces, and like the watches, the bike is adorned with multiple elements of upcycled firefighting materials. It also incorporates the functioning workings of one of William Wood’s limited edition watches into the fabric of the bike.

You can find a more in-depth article covering the process of how this bike came together by clicking here

William Wood Watches was founded by Jonny Garrett, the grandson of the late William Wood, a decorated firefighter who served in the British Fire Service for over 25 years. William Wood makes firefighting-inspired luxury watches from upcycled firefighting material. The company donates to firefighting charities through sale of every watch and regularly supports and sponsors firefighting charities internationally.

Build Highlights –

• Located at the centre of the V-twin engine is the functional inner workings of a limited-edition William Wood watch case back

• Finished in a deep gloss metallic fire engine red, with hand finished 24 carat gold leaf and black pin striping, inspired by early era fire engines

• Hand grips made from upcycled British fire hose, with a 1920’s William Wood coin inset in the wooden bar-ends

• Seat is hand-stitched leather saddlery, incorporating recycled fire hose, and a diamond for each of the children saved by William Wood and his colleagues

• Wooden cross-bar, crafted from the wood of a fire appliance ladder, providing a perfect mount for the owner’s complimentary William Wood bronze ruby watch
